- Women are more afraid than are men of snakes, spiders, heights, and the dark.
- Men are more afraid than women of the Tea Party and the dentist.
- 18-29 year olds are more scared of spiders and heights than are older Americans.
- Half of polled African-Americans are scared of Republicans.
- Six in ten Democrats are scared of Republicans and six in ten Democrats are scared of Republicans.
- Four out of ten Independent voters are scared of Republicans and Democrats.
- 16% of Republicans fear their fellow Republicans, while only 9% of Democrats fear the others in their party.
- Of the ten items polled, Republicans are most afraid of Democrats and Democrats are most afraid of Republicans.
- Just over one-third of Americans (35%) are scared of the Tea Party.
- Democrats fear the Tea Party the most at 54%, followed by Independents at 31% and Republicans at 18%.
- Fear of the dentist decreases with age – the younger you are the more scared you are of the dentist.
- Fear of the clowns decreases with age – the younger you are the more scared you are of clowns.
The poll of 1,079 Americans was conducted by Majority Opinion Research on October 28, 2010 and was weighted by age, race, gender and political party affiliation. The poll has a maximum sampling error of +/- 3%. |
