A Majority Opinion Research/Poll Position poll indicates that interest in news by the American public is most concentrated in matters related to local and national content. In the survey, women tended to be more interested in what was occurring locally, while men said their first interest was national news. Republicans tended to be more interested in national news, while Democrats said local news is more important. Individuals who describe themselves as independent voters are split nearly equally between local and national news. The poll was clear no major demographic group considered international news or new related to their state of residence to be of major interest.
