National Healthcare Program Poll

An InsiderAdvantage / Majority Opinion Research poll shows a majority of Americans oppose a government run healthcare program; do not trust the government to administer an efficient and effective healthcare program; and, believe there is currently significant waste in federal Medicaid and Medicare programs.

Q. What is your opinion of the proposed government run healthcare program which is currently a part of the U.S. House of Representative’s overall healthcare legislation?

Strongly favor: 25%
Somewhat favor: 11%
Somewhat oppose: 8%
Strongly oppose: 44%
No Opinion: 12%

Q. Do you trust the federal government’s ability to provide and administer an efficient and effective healthcare program?

Trust the government: 32%
Do not trust the government: 59%
No opinion: 9%

Q. In terms of dollars, how much fraud and waste do you believe there is in the current federal Medicaid and Medicare programs?

Significant amount: 73%
Insignificant amount: 14%
Don’t know: 13%

The poll of 636 registered voters was conducted on July 14, 2009 and was weighted by age, race, gender and political party affiliation. The poll has a maximum sampling error of +/- 3.8%.
