Atlanta Mayoral Race Wide Open

May 14, 2009
An InsiderAdvantage / Majority Opinion Research poll of the Atlanta mayor’s race, conducted Tuesday night for Atlanta’s WSB-TV, shows it’s a wide-open battle to succeed Mayor Shirley Franklin.

City Councilwoman Mary Norwood is ahead of the pack, but her 37 percent share right now is less than the 43 percent of voters who say they are undecided, and a runoff appears to be in the cards.

The poll was conducted among 420 registered voters who are eligible to vote in the mayoral election and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.

The results when respondents were asked who they would vote for if the election was today:

Mary Norwood: 37%
City Council President Lisa Borders: 10%
State Sen. Kasim Reed: 4%
Political newcomer Jesse Spikes: 2%
Other: 5%
Undecided: 43%
