Two-Thirds Think US Should Use Enhanced Interrogation Techniques

A Majority Opinion Research national poll of voters finds that two-thirds of American voters think that the United States should use enhanced interrogation techniques in the future if they did indeed provide information that aided in the finding and killing of Osama Bin Laden. While Republicans are the most supportive of using these techniques (74%), 67% of independent voters and 58% of Democrats support using them as well.

Q. Some give credit to enhanced interrogation techniques for providing information that led to the findings and killing of Osama Bin Laden.  If that is the case, should the United States use such techniques in the future?

No 18%
No Opinion 16%

The poll of 1,032 voters was conducted on May 4, 2001 and was weighted by age, race, gender and political party affiliation. The poll has a maximum sampling error of +/- 2.9%.
