Georgia January Issues Poll

An InsiderAdvantage / Majority Opinion Research poll asked Georgians their opinions on a number of issues in advance of the 2008 legislative session. The following is a sample of findings from the poll:

Q. In your opinion, what is the most important issue for the Governor and Georgia General Assembly to deal with?

Jobs/The economy: 24%
Water shortages: 17%
Healthcare: 16%
Education: 14%
Road congestion/Transportation: 10%
Property taxes: 10%
Energy costs: 9%

Q. What impact is the cost of gasoline having on your family’s personal finances?

Very significant: 38%
Somewhat significant: 43%
Not very significant: 9%
Not at all significant: 10%

Q. Do you believe the economy id entering a recession?

Yes: 47%
No: 26%
Don’t know: 27%

Q. What alternatives do you believe would be most attractive and effective to use for energy production, in addition to the current coal-fired plants?

Nuclear power: 51%
Conversion of agricultural and other waste into energy: 34%
Solar power: 7%
Don’t know: 8%

Q. Do you believe that Georgia needs major property tax reform?

Yes: 41%
No: 38%
Don’t know: 21%

Q. Would you support a plan to eliminate the portion of the residential property taxes that are used to pay for local schools, if those taxes were replaced by a tax on groceries and certain services?

Yes: 33%
No: 49%
Don’t know: 18%

Q. Would you support or a plan to eliminate Georgia’s ad valorum “tag tax” and have the state charge a less expensive registration fee?

Yes: 79%
No: 12%
Don’t know: 9%

The poll was conducted January 6 – 7, 2008. A total of 653 interviews were conducted. The results were weighted by age, race, gender and political affiliation. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8%.
