American's Oppose Government Ownership of Businesses

More than half (52%) of Americans polled by Majority Opinion Research for Poll Position in late February 2009 oppose the government taking ownership or nationalizing banks, insurance companies or other major corporations.

Q:  Do you favor or oppose substantial ownership or nationalization by the government of banks, insurance companies or other major corporations?

Favor : 25%
Oppose: 52%
No Opinion: 23%

Opposition to nationalization varies greatly by political party affiliation, with nearly three out of four Republicans opposing it, nearly two out of three independents opposing it and only one out of four Democrats opposing it.
