Big Majorities Want Hospitals to Disclose Infection Rates

(2/19/07)
The latest InsiderAdvantage / Majority Opinion Research statewide survey, conducted February 16-18 of 500 registered voters (margin of error +/- 4%), showed overwhelming support for two pieces of legislation introduced last week in the General Assembly. One deals with the disclosure of “hospital acquired infection rates” while the other places non-profit hospitals under a strict open records requirement designed to gain information about potential payment to management and others from related parties. The questions were:

1. Do you favor or oppose legislation which would require that hospitals disclose “all hospital acquired infection rates” to the general public?

Favor: 71%
Oppose: 14%
Don’t Know/No Opinion: 15%

2. Do you favor or oppose legislation which would require non profit hospitals to be subject to the Georgia Open Records Act to disclose all financial payments, from any organization or entity in any way related to the hospital, made to their top management and board members?

Favor: 81%
Oppose: 11%
Don’t Know/No Opinion: 8%
The statewide telephone survey was weighted for age, race, gender, and political affiliation.
